Customs and Coast Guard Seize 14K in Contraband Goods
The Customs Department and Belize Coast Guard carried out a joint operation on Friday morning at a contraband hotspot near San Victor Village, up north. The operations netted a big bust coming from Mexico by way of the Rio Hondo River and into Belize. Two skiffs carrying unaccustomed goods of Mexican beers, sodas, flour, footwear, clothing and Tupperware all valued at fourteen thousand dollars were intercepted. Sighting the authorities, two contrabandistas jumped from the vessels and escaped by swimming away, leaving behind their vessels each valued at three thousand dollars. A release from the Belize Coast Guard says, that the Coast Guard continues to conduct aggressive patrols in the border regions with the Customs to deter illegal activities.
