Anthony Sylvester Sr., Dead at 73

Former Cabinet Secretary Anthony Sylvester Senior passed away this morning after ailing for some time. Sylvester Senior slipped into a coma and at the time of his death, was at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  Sylvester Senior was the consummate career public officer who rose through the ranks; he was named permanent secretary and ultimately served as cabinet secretary during the Price administration. Sylvester Senior is credited for his active role in the reform of the public service. He was also well-known in the People’s United Party where he served in various capacities at different times including as manager of the party organ, the Belize Times. On his retirement from public life, he mostly kept a low profile. He is survived by sons, attorney Anthony Junior and Adrian as well as his daughter Stephanie.
