Police investigate double murder in O.W. cane field
Orange Walk police have their hands full tonight as they investigate the double murder of two men Saturday morning in a cane field. The bodies of forty-seven year old Ismael Tillett, a cane loader and sixty-one year old cane farmer Aurelio Ku were found in a field near the village of Trinidad. The victims’ families have told police that both men left home around 6:30 that morning to load cane that had already been cut and believe they were attacked and killed soon after arriving. When a truck came to pick up the cane, the driver became alarmed as he did not see the men, finding only the loader with its engine still running. According to Inspector James Magdaleno, officer in charge of the Orange Walk police station, when they arrived on the scene they found the victims lying close to each other on the ground. Their hands had been tied and police counted a total of eight gunshots to their heads. Magdaleno says they do not believe the murder is drug related or the result of any robbery, but they do suspect the men may have been questioned about something and then shot. One man has since been detained and authorities are asking anyone with information to please come forward and call the nearest police station.
