New Grassroots Organization Says Vega and Pitts Need to Pay Up

There’s a new grassroots organization in town. The members call themselves “Belize Economical Freedom Fighters.” It is being led by a name that you may recognize – Raymond Rivers. He says that this group will tackle economic disparities and corruption in Belize. Today, when we ran into Rivers and his colleague, they say that one of the hot-button issues on their radar is the Andre Vega and Sharon Pitts 2015 land case. It has been close to a year since there’s been any solid development in that matter. As we’ve reported over the past year, G.O.B. has a lawsuit against Vega and Pitts for eight hundred thousand dollars which the Ministry of Natural Resources paid them in compensation for some questionable land deals. That matter has been dragging through the courts. Now this group alleges that Vega and Pitts will not be returning any of the monies. Well, the Economical Freedom Fighters say fear not, they will keep the issue alive and hold these persons accountable.

“There was a final report made on the findings of the fraudulent land transaction by Andre Vega and Sharon Pitts. From November 2016, eight hundred thousand dollars that belongs to the tax payers’ monies have been held in captivity by two Belizeans and we strongly feel that these two fellow Belizeans should face the same protocols applied to my fellow Belizeans under the constitution. We also would like to know that the monies were supposed to be returned two years ago and we understand that Andre Vega case done drop and that was not made known to us.”
