Acros bombs out O.W. Juventus
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and welcome aboard this yuletide ride on Sports Monday. As Santa and his reindeers were readying their bag of surprises, the Regent’s Cup Tournament was reaching the end of the first round of play. Yesterday at the M.C.C. Grounds one of those surprises showed up prematurely in the match-up between Acros Bombers and former semi-pro champion, Juventus of Orange Walk.
It’s the visitors with the first serious goal scoring opportunity, but Sergio Quinonez goes straight at the keeper, squandering his chance at a league leading seventh goal. Juventus attacks again off this spotkick, which almost results in the dreaded auto-goal.
Tell me folks, is Quinonez, a real goleador? Because if he is then this attempt could be interpret as a major disappointment. Acros finally gets a turn to squander a scoring opportunity when number eleven Jermaine Zuniga fails to execute.
People first maybe three chances are good enough for Quinonez to convert, but then maybe that’s not the case as gleaned from the evidence.
What is irrefutable, however, is the 1-zip lead Acros Bombers take when Tyrone Muschamp catches up with this centre and the cords shake as we head into intermission.
So we go to second half action and the Orange Walk goes to work immediately. This spotkick finds Marcelino Tun and just like that, we’ve got a tied ballgame.
Juventus wants the lead desperately, so they go to Freddie Tun, but his header is easily corralled by the keeper. Okay its for the lead and Sergio Quinonez, one of the league leading scorers, gets his fourth opportunity to impress the scoreboard on this penalty kick, and guess what? It becomes just another embarrassment.
Juventus pays for it because at the other end its more Acros excitement when Jermaine Zuniga stays with this play to give his team a 2-1 lead.
Things get worse for the visitors when Muschamp gets taken down inside the eighteen. The referee rules penalty and David Rodriguez makes them pay with this blast that gives Acros Bombers its second season victory on a 3-1 blast. It that a Christmas surprise or what?
In other BFL matches around the league. Undefeated Kulture Yabra clubbed Lazio F.C. 5-zip; Builders Hardware Bandits burned Jacintoville 1-zip. Griga United stopped a two game losing streak by scorching Acros Verdes 1-nil, while San Pedro handed Corozal F.C. a 3-1 punch.
Hey folks, that’s it for sports. We hope you enjoy this Christmas time. We want to express our wishes for a prosperous and blessed New Year. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
DUE TO PUBLIC AND BANK HOLIDAYS ON DECEMBER 25TH AND 26TH, THE NEXT NEWSCAST WILL BE ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 27TH.
