P.U.P.’s Francis Fonseca Says ‘Don’t Cry Wolf’

P.U.P. Area Representative for the division, Francis Fonseca, was also in the area this evening. According to Fonseca, the residents told him of the matter about two weeks ago and he met with them shortly thereafter. Fonseca says that on Wednesday, he was alerted by the residents that their houses were being dismantled. While Elrington has claimed that the dismantling was done by mischief makers, Fonseca says Elrington should not be ‘crying wolf.’

“We have had for a long time, a comprehensive plan for the development of Belama and in particular Belama Phase Four. Since 2008 when we left government, the U.D.P. government has completely abandoned that plan. In fact many of the persons who got leases and titles have had those leases and in some cases some of their titles have been cancelled, as ridiculous as that sounds.   And these lots have been given to other individuals and sold to other individuals, many of them connected to the government. So, it has been a disgraceful mismanagement of the entire area by this U.D.P. government. I have consistently raised this issue with the government, trying to resolve it. The fact is that the only solution to this matter and that is the solution we had on the table in 2008 is the government acquiring the property. That was always the plan for the government to acquire the property, subdividing it and creating lots. We thought we could create close to sixty lots in this area with the land available here for sale and we could build houses on those lots and create a nice residential community for first time land owners. That has been completely neglected. So, I don’t want to hear anything from any U.D.P. standard bearer coming around now crying wolf, when in fact it is their government, their irresponsibility, their neglect and their failure to carry out that comprehensive plan.”

We’ll have more on this developing story in Friday’s newscast.
