New Fisheries Bill to be Tabled Soon
As for the proposed amendments to the Fisheries Bill, Wade says that it will be tabled in the House of Representatives in the next couple of months. The bill contains stiffer penalties against violation of fisheries regulations.
Beverly Wade, Fisheries Administrator
“I know that there is a process for a bill to go to the House. The Fisheries Department along with partners will be elated with that bill is passed. It’s going to be an instrument that will definitely create more effectiveness in our efforts, not only in combating illegal fishing but in management on a whole. The good news is that we have been told that they are looking at passing the bill within the next month or so. We are very much anxious and we are waiting for that. We are told by the executive that they are, they do have it as a priority now to pass. So we look forward to that.”
