Notice to Vacate Property Issued to Single Mother of 2
A notice to vacate a property in Belmopan was issued on Monday to a single mother of two. Nicolasa Cus says she has been living on parcel eight-four-one-seven, situated in the Maya Mopan area, for the past twelve years. The notice is signed by General Manager of the Reconstruction and Development Cooperation, RECONDEV, Hector Sabido, who tells Cus and her children that they need to vacate the land within ten days. If they fail to do so, RECONDEV will take drastic action to remove the family, according to Sabido. Cus, however, says she has no intention of relocating, especially since she attempted to by the piece of land a few years ago.
Voice of: Nicolasa Cus, Belmopan Resident
“The guy from RECONDEV told me that they had already bought the lot and that I will have to move. I told him that I will not move. I talked to the man who bought the land and asked him what happened to the land that he has in PG and Colombia because I know the guy who bought the land. He said he sold them and I told him, ‘and you come harass people here?’ I live on this land for almost twelve years, I told him. And I won’t move, that is what I told him. I went to RECONDEV with him on that same day. When we supposed to talk to Mr. Sabido, he was in a meeting. I went again the next day, he was in a meeting. He did not see me at all. I don’t know what to do next. If they give me the land, I am willing to pay. I am not going to live o and on the land like that. They did not come to me first of all. They just do things like they can move people like how they want. I am a Belizeans I have right to live on this land and I need to get a piece of land because I have kids that born here.”
