Water restored in Placencia and Seine Bight
Residents of Placencia and Seine Bight–at least those who still have houses–are a little bit closer to normalcy tonight, as they’ve had their water supply restored. The pipe which carries the nation’s best tasting municipal water across the Placencia lagoon from Big Creek had been destroyed by Hurricane Iris but has now been repaired with help from Belize Water Services Limited. Although B.W.S. does not administer village water systems, it donated materials, equipment and the labour of its engineers to the village water boards. In the end, over three thousand feet of six inch submarine pipeline was replaced. Both B.W.S. and local staff worked long hours to complete the project well in time for the holidays. In the interim, water had to be trucked in by tankers from wells at the top of the peninsula.
