Phillip Gallaty’s License to Sell Firearms is Up in the Air

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has also written to proprietor Phillip Gallaty in respect of the burglary, particularly since the security of the building from which the trove of weapons was stolen, has bearing on his license to sell firearms.  While ComPol Williams did not disclose much on the results of an investigation into the integrity of the building, he did point out at there are irregularities which have been identified to Gallaty.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“Mr. Gallaty was served yesterday with that letter and he is being given one week to respond as to why his gun dealers license should not be revoked.  Once that response is received, I will review and as I’ve said before, if he cannot provide a satisfactory reason as to why the gun license should not be revoked then I am going to exercise my discretion given to me under the Firearms Act to revoke his gun license.”

“You appointed an officer to investigate Mr. Gallaty’s investigation.  What has been the result of that report?”

Chester Williams

“I am not going to go into specifics but I will just go as far as to say that the investigation has yielded or has proven that there are some irregularities and those irregularities have been highlighted in the letter that he was sent and he is now given due process.  Because the law is, while you have a discretion to exercise such discretion must not be exercised arbitrarily.  So, you must ensure that due process occurs.  So he is now being given an opportunity to respond to the letter and say why, considering the circumstances, his gun license should not be revoked.”

Isani Cayetano

“Sir, have all the firearms been accounted for?”

Chester Williams

“From what we have gathered so far, I think a total of two firearms are still outstanding and just over seven hundred rounds are still missing.”
