Fin Sec Weights in on Slew of GST Suits

It is believed that the cumulative sum that the claimants are seeking is in the seven-figure range, slightly below ten million dollars.   While Financial Secretary Joseph Waight did not elaborate on the matter which is presently before Justice Courtney Abel, he does anticipate that the ruling of the high court will affirm government’s recent action to amend the GST Act.

“It’s a moving figure.  It’s in the low single digits millions, but it’s below ten million dollars.  It’s in court, I can’t say much more.  We are hopeful that the court will uphold the actions of the Government of Belize.”
