Cops to Stand Trial for Extortion
Two cops have also been committed to stand trial for extortion of five thousand dollars from a mother and son duo. Corporal Marvin Salam and Constable Anthony Blair are accused of shaking down a student and his mom for money almost two years ago in July 2017. Allegations are that on July fifteenth, 2017, the cops requested money from Hermant Bhojwani and his mother, Jessica, outside the Mahogany Street Police Station in order for them to drop charges against Hermant. He claims that his mother was to hand over the money at the corner of Church Street and East Canal, but police were alerted of the extortion and the officers were caught. During preliminary inquiry today, Magistrate Michelle Trapp committed Salam and Blair to trial at the next practical session of the Supreme Court. Attorney Anthony Sylvester did not challenge any of the submissions made by prosecutor, Sergeant Hilberto Ruiz, and the men were given bail of three thousand dollars each.
