Chaa Creek wins international award
One of Belize’s pioneers in the eco-tourism business has been recognised internationally for its work in that field. The Lodge at Chaa Creek was presented with the 2001 ASTA Environmental Award from the American Society of Travel Agents at their World Travel Congress in New York earlier this month. The award recognises the resort’s environmental efforts and the positive impact they have had on the tourism industry. It has been a good year for Chaa Creek, having been similarly honoured regionally by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation and locally as Hotel of the Year by the Belize Tourism Board. Chaa Creek opened for business in 1981 with a single rustic cabana and now boasts twenty-one rooms and suites along with a jungle camp, butterfly farm, natural history centre and spa.
