Corruption Also Involves Private Sector Partners

Nikita Usher

Corruption is not only a problem that many governments have been battling. Corruption has found its way in not only the government department and ministries but also in the private sector. Before officially beginning his remarks, on Thursday, during the Prime Minister Business Forum, President of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nikita Usher, made it clear that corruption also involves private sector partners.

Nikita Usher, President, B.C.C.I.

“Before I start with my presentation let me start by making one statement of correction or clarification for the good prime minister who happens not to be seated with us. First and foremost I was wondering if I was a notorious character or was I one was plagued with leprosies. I don’t know which one to choose because at one point I was good and at one point I was not good. The statement made at the last Chamber of Commerce show, I must make clarity on that issue. It cannot go without being said that that statement was made across all governments. It this not specify this government. And it also did mention that even private sector individuals are also involved. That makes it very clear that we are cognizant that corruption is not only at the public sector, or the Ministry level, it also involves private sector partners. I take it that somebody is going to take this back this message. Prime Minister we also heard you saying that you are joining private and public sector to drive the economy forward. We also will hold you to the commitments of the completion of the master plan for the legislative amendments to be made for the National Bus Terminal to be completed, for the procurement of a modern tax administration program. That is what I heard. I hope we all heard that. We heard you. We are going to hold you to that and we want the delivery.”
