2 Separate Shootings Reported in Belize City
There were two unrelated shooting incidents in the Old Capital over the weekend. Nelson Gillett reported to police on Friday night that he was accosted by someone he knew. That individual, later identified as Egbert Flowers, produced a firearm and the two men tussled with each other for possession of the weapon. During the struggle, the weapon went off and injured Gillett. In another incident, Brenton and Calbert Bood came under gunfire on Saturday; fortunately, neither of them was wounded during the shooting.

“On Friday, we had a shooting incident on Waight Street. Sometime around 8:50, police were called to Waight Street where they met one Nelson Gillett. Mr. Gillett indicated to police that he was at his residence socializing when he was approached by one Egbert Flowers. Mr. Flowers produced a firearm and as a result a struggle ensued between both him and Flowers and as a result of that struggle the weapon was discharged and Mr. Gillett received a cut wound to the left middle finger. Police have since detained Egbert Flowers and he has been charged for wounding and aggravated assault in that matter. There was another shooting on Saturday, Brenton Bood and Calbert Bood were standing on Antelope Street when they saw two individuals who they knew, Mark August and one Avery. They noticed that Mr. Avery had in his possession a firearm. He pointed that weapon in their direction and fired several shots at them. No one was injured as a result of that. Mr. August and Mr. Avery were both detained and they were charged jointly for aggravated assault, abetment and conspiracy.”
