Shooting in Peini in Broad Day
There was a daring mid-morning attack on a residence in Punta Gorda Town earlier today where two men on bicycles opened fire on a home on Queen Street. Police are trying to ascertain whether the incident may be an act of reprisal following the murder of Jordy Flores on January twenty-ninth. According to police, an officer on his motorcycle was doing a routine patrol of the area when he encountered the pair. The men fired multiple rounds in the direction of the property before attempting to flee the scene the way they came. But they wouldn’t get far. Despite dropping the firearm, they were subsequently detained by officers responding to the shooting.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“Today, sometime around 10:45 a.m., police or one police officer was on a motorcycle patrol on Queen Street when he observed two male persons on bicycles standing in front of a yard. Obviously, one of those persons fired several shots towards the yard he was standing in front of. As a result, this officer pursued both suspects who got on their bicycles in an effort to escape, however, during the process one of the weapons being carried by that person fell to the ground which was secured by the officer. At this point in time both suspects are in custody pending this investigation.”

“Are you able to speak about the tremendous bravery that he displayed in this because, you know, you are chasing men who have a gun?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Well yes, of course. We do applaud the efforts by that officer who single-handedly was in pursuit of those persons who were armed.”
