Footballers confidently head to Guatemala
On Monday, the National Under-21 Male Football Team and the National Women’s Team departed for Guatemala to compete in the Central American Games. Tonight the men will play their first match and according to Dr. Bertie Chimilio, President of the Football Federation of Belize, both squads are ready to play.

“Both of our teams have trained very hard. They have been training since August. They’re had a few practice matches, but what has really given me the hope that they’re going to do well, is the attitude they left from here with. They’re very positive, they followed the coaching staff. They did everything they had to do under all the pressure. So the attitude they left with has given us hope that this time around our teams are going to come back with a stream of victories.”

“Tonight Belize plays its first team, who will be in this competition?”
Dr. Bertie Chimilio
“The male Under-21 selection plays tonight against its counterpart from Guatemala. The games are being held in Guatemala, it’s a home game for Guatemala and all the pressure will be on them. The pressure will be on us too, because of our existing differences and the fact that over the last two years we’ve drew with the A-team of Guatemala. So these guys are really, really eager to win, they want to make history. So far as I can see, they’re very positive and we look forward to a very good result tonight.

“And when will our women take to the field?”
Dr. Bertie Chimilio
“Our women take to the field on Sunday against Guatemala also, at 5:00 p.m. and indications from Guatemala are that they’re training very hard. We’ve had three injuries on the women’s team, but our doctor is checking them out and we hope that they could be okay for Sunday. We look forward to great games, great camaraderie among our Central American friends.”

“The Central American Games are until December third. Just how many games will our teams be playing?”
Dr. Bertie Chimilio
“Initially, in this first round, our males will be playing three games, cause we’re a group with Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua. The women will be playing tow games cause they’re a group with Guatemala and El Salvador. Once we pass that round, we have on the male side three more games to reach to the medal round and on the female side we have two more games to reach the medal round. So there’s gonna be enough games for us to play and I believe that once they follow the coaching staff and do the technical work that they have to do, they will make Belize proud.”
The Central American Games finish on December Third.
