10 vehicles seized from Mayan King Farm

Story Picture
Police have impounded ten late model vehicles found in a Stann Creek warehouse on the suspicion that they were stolen and illegally imported. The vehicles: four Toyota Hi-Lux pickups, two Toyota Prados, two Four Runners, one Nissan Patrol and two Dodge Caravans were seized from a building at John Zabaneh’s Mayan King Farm at the junction of the Southern Highway and Placencia Road. The bust took place around 6:30 Wednesday morning and so far only the two Cuban employees of Zabaneh who were on the premises have been arrested. They have been charged, however, only for firearms violations in connection with an unlicensed twelve-gauge shotgun and cartridges found in the warehouse. Investigations have shown that three of the vehicles: two pickups and the Caravan, were licensed and insured by Mayan King Limited. When contacted by News 5, Comptroller of Customs Omar Sabido said that his department has been asked by police to examine the fleet to determine its pedigree. Two customs officers were sent this afternoon to Belmopan where the vehicles are being stored at the police training school.
