Legal Changes Made to SSB ‘s Submission Period for Benefit Claims

Legal changes have also been made to the submission period for sickness and injury benefit claims. According to Doctor Young, the submission period has been extended from four days to fourteen days. Doctor Young says that because of the short period in which employees were being asked to file claims, many had been disallowed due to lateness. With the ten days extension, it is expected that this number would decrease and employees would receive what is due to them.

“We felt that Social Security ought to get it right. We supposed to be there, to provide sickness benefits to contributors who get sick. We felt that four days was short and by extending to fourteen calendar days and what we should see now is a big decrease in the number of disallowed claims by given persons an additional ten days to be able to get that form into Social Security. We want to ensure that workers are getting their benefits. This is one way for us to do it and so we are very pleased that the Prime Minister and Cabinet agreed and amended that four days to fourteen days. We are hoping that employees will no longer get a claim disallowed for being late. In the future this itself will become obsolete. By next year this time we should have a Doctor’s Portal where the claim form will be submitted to us by the doctor from an app.”
