Salvadoran arrested in rape attempt

A Belize City resident is tonight charged with attempted rape after he attacked a woman early Saturday morning. According to police, the victim, a thirty-six year old Salvadoran, was sleeping in her home located near the Haulover Bridge, when a man she knew only as “Neto” broke into her house. She reports that the man then proceeded to hit her across the head before forcing her to have sex with him. Police have since detained twenty year old Ernesto Alfaro Gomez, also a Salvadoran, who has been working in Belize as a mason. Based on the findings of the medical report, Gomez has been charged with attempted rape, aggravated assault and harm.
