2,500 Plus Disallowed Voters IS a Huge Number!
Tamai was asked a number of issues in respect of Referendum day. Earlier this week she said on Open Your Eyes that two thousand and five hundred plus persons have been disallowed from voting but that number, is ‘not a whole lot of persons’. According to Tamai, those persons on the disallowed list can still apply to register.
Josephine Tamai, Chief Elections Officer
“Persons were disallowed for various reasons. You have persons who were not able to verify they were Belizeans, persons who applied to be registered twice. We have persons who do not live at the address that they gave to us.”
Hipolito Novelo
“Some people taken your following that you made on the show, in terms when you said that two thousand five hundred plus persons is not a big number. One person being disallowed is a big enough number.”
Josephine Tamai
“I totally agree. When that number was stated it was stated in reference to the numbers that are being thrown out by the media. You hear tens of thousands of persons. That is not true.”
Hipolito Novelo
“You also explained that these persons can submit tuff to be removed from the list.”
Josephine Tamai
“As long as persons, even though they have been disallowed, they can go back to the Elections and Boundaries registration office with their documentation and their application will be taken.”
