Minister of National Security Tours Southern Belize
Minister of National Security John Saldivar commenced a tour of the south this weekend, beginning with a trip to Barranco Village and the Sarstoon River on Friday. The ministry is proposing to build a forward operating base in the village. And along with a delegation of government officials, Minister Saldivar held several meetings, including a sit down with the village chairman, as well as a meeting with the police officer stationed in that community. In the Sarstoon, the damaged pier has now been repaired. Both areas are strategic coastal locations in the southern border given their proximity to Guatemala. C.E.O. George Lovell provides a summary of those discussions.

“The station was in a dire need for repair, so that we can have the police station manned on a permanent basis and we had made a commitment to do just that. We had also had the opportunity to take along with us the commandant of the coast guard and he saw that station as a strategic location for them to have a forward operating base even though we already have one in the Sarstoon which is jointly manned by B.D.F. and coast guard. We also saw that facility and that location as a very important position for the coast guard.”
