The Unauthorized Use of Images of George Price on I.C.J. billboards

Across the country, the YES Campaign organized by the Referendum Unit has been carrying out a propaganda blitz, promoting a ‘YES’ vote on April tenth referendum day. Aside from the media rounds, billboards and posters have been erected at prominent locations. There is one of Philip Goldson, another of former Prime Minister Said Musa along with PM Barrow—all prompting a YES. Now, the family of the late father of the nation, George Price, is objecting to a billboard quoting Price and showing his image as part of the I.C.J. public campaign, which they describe is mired in partisan politics. Attorney for the Price family, Dickie Bradley, has written to Ambassador Alexis Rosado, who heads the Referendum Unit. In the letter, the family says they “do not wish to have the name, image of any quotation attributable to George Price to be used as part of any campaign surrounding the controversial issue of the government’s proposal to encourage Belizeans to agree to go to the I.C.J.” The letter ends with a request that the billboards of George Price be removed from all public places, spaces and usage expeditiously. We understand that the matter has been referred to the Office of the Attorney General by the Referendum Unit.
