B.E.L. completes restoration of power
Belize Electricity Limited has announced that just over a month after Hurricane Iris tore through Stann Creek and Toledo, they have completed their restoration efforts in the south. According to the company, more than two thousand, six hundred customers on the Placencia Peninsula, in Independence and rural communities in Toledo were left in the dark after the storm, but today all those capable of receiving current have been reconnected. B.E.L. says approximately three hundred buildings are not yet ready for connection, but service crews will be visiting them regularly until all connections are restored. During recovery efforts, B.E.L. says it took the opportunity to upgrade and strengthen distribution systems to better withstand hurricane conditions.
