New Police Booth on Boulevard

Today, the Belize Police Department inaugurated a new police booth on Central American Boulevard in Belize City. The booth was donated by the Young family of Way Printing Company. This police booth is different from the others you’ve seen around the city. It is fully fitted with a rest room, external surveillance cameras and other features for officers to get more use out of it when doing their jobs. We stopped by for the ribbon cutting.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“When he brought the idea to me of building a booth, I immediately said to him what I wanted. So, I helped in the design and in terms of what the booth must look like and what it must contain. We want to be able to have something where the officers will feel comfortable. The cameras that are affixed outside are placed there so that if the officers are inside the booth, maybe it is raining or something, they can sit inside and see what is happening outside by way of the camera. The other feature is the glass round and round outside so that it can give them a view of outside. Another donor has promised to give another one. I will give the plan to that donor and he will finance the construction of another one in the back-a-town area.”
