Canadian still not charged in bank job
Forty-three year old Gary Daniel Hart, a Canadian national, remains in police custody in San Pedro after he tried to hold-up the town’s branch of the Atlantic Bank. On Tuesday the police told News 5 that they were called by the bank manager and told that a hold-up was in progress. The police ostensibly arrived on the scene and managed to quickly apprehend Hart. Today, however, we are informed that it was not the police but the bank’s security guard who successfully subdued Hart and managed to hold him captive until the police arrived. According to Bank Manager Carlos Jex, although Hart has no business with the bank, he knew Hart because he had met with him in his office once before the incident. Jex says that on Tuesday, Hart, who tried to disguise himself by wearing a hat, gloves and glasses, entered his office around one-thirty in the afternoon. Hart appeared very cool and calm and handed him a note that demanded up to forty thousand U.S. dollars. Jex says Hart had no visible weapon, but kept his hands inside a bag. Surprisingly, once Jex was handed the note, Hart failed to follow him outside to get the money. It was then that Jex managed to catch the attention of the security guard and they both alerted the staff. Once the employees were out of harm’s way the guard then cautiously approached Hart and held him until the police came. A search of the bag was conducted and instead of a gun, police found a flashlight and other items. Police say all they have managed to get out of Hart is that he arrived on the island in August and stayed in San Pedro with the intention to conduct business. Hart is yet to be charged.
