Quality Poultry Business View Caribbean’s Cover Story!
Last month, we shared a story on the economic benefits of migrant-founded businesses like Quality Poultry Products in Spanish Lookout. The poultry producer was also recognized with a cover story for a digital publication called Business View Caribbean. It is an e-publication with more than 30,000 executive subscribers throughout the region. The Business View Caribbean publishes content on inner workings of the most influential companies and leaders today and describes itself as the Caribbean’s best source of news for executives, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others interested in industry trends and best practices. The cover story comes with eight pages of content on Quality Poultry Products entitled “the leader in Belize.” The article chronicles the cooperative’s history and growth, production capacity, as well as idea of exportation to the region. About two years ago, Quality became internationally certified – a step towards expanding their market. Here’s what Barkman told us last month about that certification and what it means for them doing business outside of Belize.

“Poultry is very stable in Belize. I don’t think you can go to any area in Belize and you won’t find poultry. It is delivered across the country, so obviously the next step is to look in the horizon. And this is where the HACCP program came in 2014-2015 when we started with this. This was a major investment because having the HACCP which stands for Health Analyst Critical Control Point – this is the requirement you need to export to any country. And you can’t start to think about any of this until you have it. This was a serious investment. We pretty much had to renovate the whole processing plant from A to Z. This was, by far, the biggest investment we have done. It was done over a period of three years and we completely renovated the poultry plant from one end and worked our way through the other end and just re-did everything.”
