Re-registration Process Winding Down Ahead of Deadline
The deadline for re-registration is March eleventh and across the country eligible voters are making last-minute efforts to ensure that they are able to cast their ballots on April tenth. But while many have successfully done so, they are still without a Voters ID card tonight and do not know when those cards will be issued to them. So is there a delay in the production to these identification documents? News Five visited several centers in Belize City earlier today and while we were informed that senior staffers at the Elections and Boundaries Department were in an all-day training session, we met several persons who expressed their frustrations with not being able to receive their cards. “To be honest, I noh really follow up politics or whatnot, but then you know fi di I.C.J., I feel like da something weh most Belizeans woulda try tek di opportunity to look into because if I feel like we wahn win I wah vote yes, and I feel like we have a strong case.”

“The twenty-third of August last year.”

“So what has you at the office today?”

“Well I try cohn pick it up but weh happen is dehn di tell me, dehn noh give me wahn date or di time when I supposed to pick it up. So I just di wait pan dat and ih still noh ready.”

“Now from the twenty-third of August last year to now, the tenth of March, it seems to be a long time to wait. Do you feel as though the process is frustrating?”

“Dat frustrating indeed. As a matter of fact, if I not get anytime soon ih might mek I noh wahn go fi it. Ih wahn mek I noh wahn mek di step fi try get it, yo know weh ah di seh. So dah just one ah di thing weh I di think bout.”

“Because I am assuming you have made several trips to try to find out as to when the card will be ready.”

“Only two time, but yoh know, if ih noh ready, ih noh ready. I noh di stress it like that but I woulda want it as soon as possible because I expect fi mi get it from at least January already.”
