Guatemalan Knocked Down and Killed in OW
Sixty-two-year-old Guatemalan National Excequiel Lopez Leon was knocked down and killed on Saturday night at around seven-twenty. Police say that thirty-four-year-old Shaun Dortch of San Pedro Village, Corozal District was driving his Mazda SUV from Orange Walk to Belize City when he knocked down Leon, who was riding his bicycle, in the same direction. Leon sustained head and bodily injuries and died on the scene. The accident occurred between miles fifty and fifty-one of the Philip Goldson Highway and according to the driver, Leon swerved onto the highway.

“Upon arrival they observed a Hispanic male lying on the side of the road with an apparent head injury and a bicycle a short distance away which was extensively damaged. A distance away police also intercepted a black SUV at the time being driven by one Shaun Dortch. Dortch reported that whilst traveling south, just outside of Orange Walk Town, he observed a cyclist on the side of the road who served on to the middle of the highway and a result that person was knocked down.”
Dortch was served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution. The file is being prepared to be forward to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice. A urine sample was taken from the driver.
