Robbers wreak havoc in Belize City
Quick action by police has led to the apprehension of two robbery suspects and the recovery of the stolen goods. According to police reports, Janel Mai of Orange Walk Town, along with a co-worker, were walking through Constitution Park in Belize City around six Tuesday evening when they were held up by two men, one of whom had a gun. Two hundred dollars worth of personal items was taken. The muggers didn’t get far, however, as investigations led to the arrest of nineteen year old Leonard Myers, who was charged with handling stolen goods and twenty-five year old Stanley Coleman who has been charged with robbery.
An ex-police officer has been robbed of seventeen thousand dollars. Kenrick Castillo, a former member of the Belize Police Department was walking on Orange Street around ten-thirty this morning heading for the Pound Yard Bridge. Castillo told police that when he approached West Street, two men grabbed two envelopes he had been carrying and ran away. One of the envelopes contained personal documents, but the other contained just over seventeen thousand dollars, Castillo’s gratuity cheque that he had just cashed at the bank. Police have detained one man and are looking for another.
Meanwhile, police are looking another Belize City man who they suspect was involved in an armed hold-up at a gas station. According to police reports, two men, one armed with a handgun, approached the attendants of Buca Shell on the Northern Highway and relieved all three of more than nine hundred dollars. Police have already detained one man, but are seeking another. Police tell News 5 they believe these two men were also involved in the hold-up at Mejia Construction Supplies in early November that left employees bound and four thousand, five hundred short in cash.
