Armed men rob Mejia Construction

A daring daylight robbery at a local construction company left four people bound and terrified while thieves made off with close to five thousand in cash, and an assortment of jewelry. According to Claudette Mejia, of Mejia Construction Supplies, she, three employees and a customer were in the company’s main building at mile three on the Northern Highway on Friday afternoon. Mejia says at about three p.m., a lone young man, dressed in camouflage entered the building behind a vendor so as to avoid being buzzed in by the security system. As employees watched in horror, the man then pulled out a nine-millimetre pistol and ordered them to lie on the floor. The man then opened the door for two other men, who tied up the victims and then robbed them of their jewelry. Apparently, one victim objected to being relieved of his property and one of the robbers lashed out at him, hitting him in the back of the head. The bandits then stole three thousand dollars from the cashier’s drawer and fifteen hundred dollars from one of the employees before driving off in a blue car with no license plates. The car, a 1985 Oldsmobile, was later found abandoned on Central American Boulevard. No arrests have been made, but an armed security guard is now a permanent fixture to the construction company’s compound.
