No Leads in Shooting of Elderly Man, Gilroy Garnett

It’s not the first time that criminals have struck during a black-out, but that is what happened when an elderly man was shot in the city earlier this week. Police told the media today that they don’t have much to go with because sixty-three-year-old Gilroy Garnett was shot during the dark and so he is unable to share any details about his attacker. Garnett was on Partridge Street when he was hit just before eight on Monday night. ASP Alejandro Cowo shares details.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City

“Gilroy Garnett sixty-three-year-old Belizean was purchasing some food at Bolo’s shop located at Partridge Street. While he was there, a male person approached him and fired shots at him which cause him to receive a gunshot wound to the stomach. Up to this moment, Mr. Garnett is in a stable condition at the K.H.M.H.”

“We have spoken to him, however, not much information coming from him as the time when the incident happened it was dark in that area and he was unable to identify who was the shooter up to now.”

Andrea Polanco

“Do you believe he was the intended target of that shooting?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Well, we suspect that he was because there were no other persons around the shop when the incident happened.”
