Succotz Villagers Meet with BWS Officials Over High Water Bills
Over the weekend, senior officials from Belize Water Services Limited held a meeting with residents of San Jose Succotz in Cayo over high water bills. As we reported earlier in the month, residents are angry over inexplicably high that they received over the last two to three months. Some residents say their bill came as high as over one thousand dollars. In a release, the company explained that a former meter ready wrongly estimated the readings for several months. The residents, however, are not accepting that explanation and have taken the position that they simply will not pay, but BWS is hell bent in collecting. According to the company’s Public Relations Manager Haydon Brown, BWS is willing to compromise.

“The company is taking a position where we will revisit the usage of all the consumers and find an average bill consumption. Basically, use that as a means to charge the customers for the bill that they had received as a high bill. Our management team from the customer service department will continue to make the weekly visit because we have been doing that, talking to the customers one in one and try to resolve their issues as best as we can. The high bill would have included their normal billing. So the high bill, what that reflected would have been their consumption over a duration. As the manager had explained, for some customers it would have been three months, six months to a much as a year worth of billing.”
