Former City Administrator Seeking Settlement Via Mediation
Former City Administrator Candice Miller appeared before Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin this afternoon for mediation with Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner. Miller was suspended from her post as the most senior manager at the Belize City Council a year ago, when a new administration took over at City Hall in March 2018. Her suspension followed serious concerns from the incoming mayor about the fulfillment of Miller’s fiduciary duties as City Administrator during the previous terms of past mayor Darrell Bradley. Two months later, Miller was terminated, along with five other employees of the Belize City Council. Since then she has filed a suit against Mayor Wagner for breach of contract. Instead of litigation however, both parties are now seeking a settlement via mediation. It is unclear how much is being sought by Miller who, along with Mayor Wagner, has signed a confidentiality agreement barring them from openly discussing details of the proceedings.
