Government cracks down on illegal lottery
Lotto might be the hot topic tonight, evidenced in part by the lines at the Belize City office earlier today, but the Lotteries Committee is letting all boledo and lottery vendors know that if they’re caught selling “write down” numbers, that is stubs not sold from the government books, they will face serious repercussions. According to a government release, anyone found selling illegal lottery more than once will have their licenses suspended or even cancelled immediately. According to the committee, an estimated two million Belize dollars is lost each year because of the illegal practices. To curb this problem, sting operations will be conducted regularly throughout the country. As part of this new policy, not only will the license holders be in trouble, so will the agents and you, the offending buyer.
