Couple on Motorcycle Crash into Concrete Barrier; Young Woman Dies

Walter Lobo & Zinnia Ayala

The second traffic fatality in the Belize District occurred just before six p.m. on Sunday. A couple travelling on a motorcycle collided into a concrete barrier near the construction site of the new connecting road in the Eight Mile Community. Walter Lobo and his girlfriend, Zinnia Ayala were heading to Hattieville when Loyo lost control of the motorbike. The impact flung twenty-year-old Ayala to her death, while Loyo received severe head and body injuries.  He is currently fighting for his life inside the Intensive Care Unit at the K.H.M.H. Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo says Loyo had on helmet, but Ayala didn’t.

“Police visited the roundabout which is under construction by eight miles on the George Price Highway where they observed the motionless body of Zinnia Ayala, twenty years, with several injuries to her body. And likewise, they observed Mister Walter Loyo, twenty-eight years, with several injuries to the body. He was transported to the hospital where he is still admitted in a critical condition. Miss Ayala died on the spot. And what police have gathered so far is that both of them were riding a Meilum motorcycle from Belize City en route to Hattieville.”

Ayala is the second woman who lost her life in a motorcycle collision over the weekend.
