Bz. man sentenced to death for murder

A teenager found guilty of murder on Monday will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Eighteen year old Jason Jones was sentenced to life in prison by Judge Wilfred Elrington in the Supreme Court this morning. Jones was convicted of the murder of fifty year old Lincoln Weston, who died in April 2000 from gunshot wounds inflicted by the teenage gunman after a dispute over some misappropriated mangoes. When the sentence was handed down, Jones laughed amid the cries of his family and friends.

In a correction to a story we ran on Monday, Stephen Smith, convicted of the murder of twenty-two year old Richard Cattouse was sentenced to death, not life in prison as we had initially reported. Twenty-six year old Smith, father of two, will be remanded to the Hattieville Prison until his sentence is carried out. However, News 5 understands that an appeal will be submitted to the courts. Smith stabbed Cattouse in July of 2000 after the young man approached him about a missing dog.
