Trio Freed of Gun and Ammunition Charges

Three Belize City men: Elwin Pollard, Aaron Flowers and Kendalle Green, were acquitted of gun and ammunition charges on Monday. The acquittal came after Prosecutor Inspector Macedonio Sanchez closed his case before Magistrate, Aretha Ford. The trio, along with now deceased Clive Smith, owner of a taxi, was found with a firearm and five live rounds of ammunition inside the car on May third, 2017. The gun was hidden under the driver’s seat.  At their initial arraignment, the four men all pleaded not guilty, but the prosecution did not have enough evidence to prove that they all knew the gun was in the van.  In trial, the crown was also unable to prove if Smith was dead or just missing. At the time, he and the others were able to secure bail through the Supreme Court, but he was later sent back to jail on another charge and a year later, he became ill and died.  The case ended in similar fashion to a most recent gun case in which Aaron Flowers, along with Collect Morter, Harry Montero, Gilroy Thompson, Kenroy Vanzie and Dorian Blair were also acquitted of kept firearm and ammunition charges. The group was busted inside a taxi van where a gun was also found. The six men were all acquitted when the prosecution could not prove that they had knowledge and possession of the gun in question.
