Teaching Services Commission Rules in Favour of Muffles’ Teacher

Elena Smith

Earlier in the year, the administration of Muffles College High School in Orange Walk Town reportedly asked a female teacher to resign after her nude pictures were being shared without her consent. The teacher refused and she was placed on administrative leave. The school had the matter forwarded to the Teaching Services Commission and after reviewing the school’s position, the Commission ruled in favour of the teacher. The decision was made days ago and the teacher was expected to be back in the classroom.  But as we found out today, the school has failed to reinstate the teacher. In fact, as B.N.T.U. National President, Senator Elena Smith explains, the Board and Principal Margaret Johnston have banned the teacher from school grounds.

“The Commission determined that there were no grounds for her to be terminated. They did not accept the recommendation of the board. So the Commission wrote to the board to inform them that the teacher must be reinstated. The board was supposed to inform the teacher that within five days that she should return to the classroom without prejudice to her position. So the teacher went back to report to school as she was supposed to do and the principal has refused to have her on the compound. She again today and she was told by security guard that the board informed him that he must not allow her on the compound. So the teacher has been trying to go and work. She has been refused entry into the school. We have informed the Chief about the situation so she is aware. The teacher has written to them to indicate what has happened and then so Dr. Babb now should be working on that matter to get that matter clarified. So we are hoping that by Monday the teacher can be in the classroom doing her job as the Commission has recommended.”
