Ground broken for Port Loyola Library
Ground breaking ceremonies for a two-storey multi-purpose building took place this afternoon on Central American Boulevard. The ground floor of the building will be used for the Port Loyola Library, the first service of its kind to be offered to that community. According to Area Representative, Dolores Balderamos Garcia, the facility, which will be managed by the National Library Service, will be able to hold ten thousand books and accommodate as many as sixty patrons.
Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Area Rep., Port Loyola
“We are looking at a huge population in Port Loyola, over five thousand voters and you can imagine the amount of children per family. We want to start with the foundation and a ground floor to be able to house about ten thousand books, computers and a study hall. Then when we go forward with the dream and put on the second floor there’ll be more space; but we figure we must make a start.”
Joy Ysaguirre, Director, National Library Service
“This will be managed as one of our branch libraries. This will make us three in Belize City, two on the northside, and this is going to be our first library on the southside since Bliss Institute was removed.”
The first floor should be completed in the next eight months. In related news, earlier this evening the Queen Charlotte Park was officially opened in Port Loyola by the Yabra Bridge.
