Soc. Sec. Board hosts regional meeting
Social Security techniques including health, financing of pension systems and management are topics being discussed at a three-day Social Security conference underway at the Radisson. The fifth high level seminar is being attended by over twenty-five delegates from the Belize Social Security Board, the Central American Council of Social Security Institutions and the International Social Security Association. SSB’s Manager, Narda Garcia, says the event is an opportunity for Belize to improve the efficiency of its system.

“We have Social Security institutions here like Costa Rica, that have been very, very successful in their implementation of their medical care branch. And we want to hear their experiences of course to hear where they have been successful and not to do things where they have failed. I think that is very important when we hear the national experiences in management, in computerisation of systems, where we need to go and where we don’t need to go. These are the highlights of the seminar. We also have technical people from the International Social Security Association that will give us some input as to what are the new trends in Europe for example and other parts of the world. How they are doing in similar problems that we face and similar challenges that we have.”
The conference opened this morning with keynote remarks by Health Minister Jose Coye.
