Robbery suspect shot dead by Dangriga police
Another suspected criminal has been shot to death by police. The incident occurred around 5:00 this morning when police in Dangriga closed in on a house in the Lakeland area where three men, believed to be involved in two armed robberies in the Stann Creek Valley, were hiding out. According to a press release from the Police Department, the three suspects attempted to escape from the house, but were intercepted by police officers. A struggle ensued in which one of the suspects, nineteen year old Brenton Sabal, attacked Constable J. Perez with a knife. After cutting Perez’s sleeve, Sabal continued to advance with a knife, at which point Perez drew his revolver and fired. The shot caught Sabal in the side of the head and he was pronounced dead on arrival at Southern Regional Hospital. The shooting will be investigated by the department.
