Machaquilah Students’ Journey to P.S.E
On Monday over seven thousand students sat the first half of the Primary School Examination countrywide. There were around thirty exam centres open for students to take the national standardized test. In our newscast on Monday night, we showed you students in Belize City after they took the exams. Well, those students only spoke about the challenges with the test, but others in the south faced challenges just to get to the exam centres. The students in Machaquilah left their homes walking around four on Monday morning to get to Dolores Village, Toledo where they take a bus to go to the exam centre in Corazon Village. Their teacher captured a snippet of their long and tiring journey on Monday morning.

“Why are you students up so early?”
Student
“Because we have to sit the national exam which is the P.S.E in Corazon and we have to catch the bus 6:45 that is why we are up so early.”
Arnoldo Putul
“Where will you catch the bus?”
“In Dolores and so now we will walk,”
Arnoldo Putul
“Good evening. This is Arnoldo Putul, the class teacher of standard six students of Machaquilha RC School. Behind me are my students who went to sit P.S.E. in Corazon. Now let’s hear from them.”
“I am very tired. I want to die. Honorable Prime Minister if you are listening, please help Machaquilha with a rock road. I am just like your son. We are human beings. And then I can continue my education.”
Student
“Good evening, this is Alfonso. I was very happy this morning because I wanted to sit the P.S.E. The road was very dry too but now it is rough.”
