“In this meeting we present and approve several policy papers for the regional higher education. For instance, we have the need to provide more access to higher education in Central America. Distance education is an alternative to providing higher education to a larger number of students. So, we approved a regional framework with some good practices, standards and procedures to organize a good quality distance education offer. So, this is one of the policies that were approved yesterday. We also have the intention to improve our scientific research in the universities, so we approved a regional policy to improve research in higher education. We also approved a policy for the internationalization of higher education. The idea is that the students have to achieve competencies for the international world, a global capacity that students must have not only in matters of languages, but also in matters of inter-cultural approach.  So we approved a regional policy of internationalization of higher education on the matter of teaching, research, social services and the administration of universities”
