Caye Caulker sends aid by sea
In times of tragedy, Belizeans are known to pool their resources to help their neighbours weather the storm. That’s exactly what Caye Caulker residents did when they collected supplies to send down south by boat. Village Council Chairman Fermin Marin told News 5 that he applauds the effort of the Caye Caulker Emergency Committee.
Fermin Marin, Chairman, Caye Caulker Village Council
“This five boats that we’re taking up will be shared, hopefully down south, we don’t know exactly where NEMO will be disposing of the goods. We’re taking up food, clothes, tools, blankets, and a whole bunch of stuff. We’re really sorry for these people because we have had the experience of what it is like. We’ve had it for Hurricane Keith, we had it slight for Mitch and we had it from Chantal. This time we had a little disruption, but we are more than glad to be of some assistance to the other Belizean people that have suffered damage. And we’re more than welcome, that’s why we’re going out there full force, with all out hearts to assist in every way possible.”

“If people would like to contribute how can they get in touch with you all?”
Fermin Marin
“They can send it right over to the Caye Caulker Village Council office, or they can call 022-2043 and our secretary there or my assistants from the village council will be there to receive anything that they can send.”
Residents who wish to contribute to the cause and need their contributions to be picked up can call telephone number 022-2043 during normal working hours.
