Mexico delivers truckloads of help

Earlier today, Mexican officials arrived in Belmopan to hand over the contents of eight trucks to the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Chief Executive Officer David Gibson accepted three hundred five-gallon containers of water, over a thousand blankets and mattresses, clothing for two hundred families, six thousand litres of milk, and several thousand bags of food rations from the Governor and people of the State of Quintana Roo. According to Mexican ambassador Arturo Trejo, the Governor is very concerned about the plight of the hurricane victims.

“This is the first package of aid, but the Governor of Quintana, Roo, Mr. Hendrix is very attentive of further needs. And the federal government is also studying, according to the disposal of the services and the needs of Belize, what can be supplied in addition to this, maybe helicopter, tents. It will depend on the needs of Belize and what the Mexican Government has at disposable at this moment. But there will be more aid coming to Belize.”

The supplies were sent to the Independence distribution centre where NEMO officials will be dividing the goods between the villages of Seine Bight, Placencia and villages in Toledo. Mexican officials will be meeting with representatives of NEMO to render technical assistance during relief efforts.
