Salvador’s President Antonio Saca on farewell tour
Outgoing president of El Salvador, Elias Antonio Saca and his wife will be making a whirlwind visit to Belize this Wednesday. Saca is visiting Central American countries to say farewell as his term of office comes to a close. Saca’s party, ARENA, lost the January eighth elections to the F.M.L.N. and Mauricio Funes, a journalist by profession, will be sworn in as the new president on June first for a five year period. In the five hours or so that he will spend in Belize, Saca will be conferred with the Order of Belize and in return he will confer the Jose Matias Delgado National Order on the Prime Minister. A separate program has been organized for his wife, Ana Ligia Mixco Sol de Saca.
In related news, News Five has learnt that Taiwan’s President Ma Ying-Jeou, who will attend the inauguration of President-elect Funes, will be making a stop in Belize following the inauguration. Ma’s visit to the region is an attempt to cement relations among the few countries that have diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
