San Pedro Resident Guilty of Drug Trafficking
A warrant for the arrest San Pedro resident, Corazon Artulio Cortez was issued this morning by Magistrate Emmerson Banner. He found the accused guilty of drug trafficking and slapped him with a mandatory fine and jail term. A non-custodial fine of ten thousand dollars and a custodial sentence of three years were handed down to Cortez in his absence for drug trafficking. On July sixteenth, 2017, Cortez was busted in possession of three hundred and thirty-eight grams of cannabis while he was on Cemetery Road during a visit to Belize City. The drugs were in a small cartoon box wrapped in transparent plastic. Cortez initially pleaded not guilty to the charge, but today in his ex-parte trial, he was found guilty. The crown, represented by Sergeant Ean Galvez, called two police witnesses before closing its case.
