2 Accidents in Benque; 1 Fatality
There were also two accidents over the weekend in Benque Viejo in which one person perished and the other remains in a critical condition at the Western Regional Hospital. The police department has embarked on a motorcycle safety campaign, but over the weekend, Benque Viejo resident, Marco Tulio de la Rosa perished when the motorbike he was riding crashed into a barrier at the western border crossing. De la Rosa was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe head injuries. He was rushed to a medical facility in Melchor, but perished on Saturday.

“In relation to the traffic accident we had the one in Benque Viejo where the person was coming from across the border into Benque and then hit the barrier. He wasn’t wearing a helmet and later succumbed to his injuries in Melchor. The person was coming from across the border so that’s where the incident occurred. On his fall, he wasn’t wearing a helmet. He was rushed to the Melchor hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He was on a motorcycle.”
Police were unable to provide the media with official details of the second traffic accident, but News Five understands that another Benque Viejo resident, Benigno Kotch, is in a critical condition at the Western Regional Hospital following an accident around ten p.m. on Saturday.
