Older persons get big thank you
They’ve been called golden citizens, older persons, seenagers, senior citizens…but by whatever name they’re known to you, this is their week. At the official ceremonies held at the Sister Cecilia Home for the Elderly in Belize City, Minister Jose Coye joined others to say “thank you” to some of the men and women who have contributed significantly to the development of our country.
Jose Coye, Minister of Health
“When we talk about the professions of doctors and lawyers and nurses and educators and engineers, it is the traditional professionalism that you exemplified, where you served in the spirit of the public interest. You served for your brothers and sisters, so your generation, you are senior, you are the elderly, but you have helped to make this Belize what it was. Now we need to bring it back to what you have left for us. I want to congratulate you today and I want to thank you most of all for what you have done for us. Now in return we must do for you what you can no longer do for yourself, but now we must do for you.”
Older Persons week is being celebrated under the theme “Add Life to Your Years” with numerous activities planned country wide.
